The history of stone pots: from rice storage to garden decoration
For centuries these pots were used for practical purposes. Discover how they have become a symbol of authentic living.

The pots we sell are not decorative reproductions. They are authentic objects with a rich history. Many of our pots are decades, sometimes even hundreds of years old.
Original use
In Southeast Asia, large stone jars and pots were traditionally used to store rice, water and oil. The thick walls kept the contents cool and protected. Villages often had a communal water supply surrounded by such jars.
Smaller pots were used in temples as incense holders or offering bowls. The improvised decorations you see on some pots, a scratched pattern or a rough relief, are the handiwork of craftsmen who made them centuries ago.
From everyday object to design icon
In the 1990s, European interior and garden designers discovered the beauty of these objects. What was once purely functional became a design statement. The irregularities and traces of use gave them a character that no modern factory-made pot can match.
We source these pots directly from families and small traders in Indonesia who have been collecting them for generations. That is how authentic pieces find their way into your home.
