About us
We are local entrepreneurs with a passion for travel. During our travels we discover unique items that are rarely or never found in the Netherlands. We often wonder why these beautiful items aren't available here — so we decided to import them ourselves!
From this vision, Montung was born. With us you'll find genuine, handmade natural stone pots from Indonesia. Each pot is unique and personally selected and sourced by us. Every pot is timeless, meaning you always bring something special into your home or garden.
When you buy from us, you support not only local entrepreneurs but also fair trade relationships with the communities we import from. We visit the places we source from and personally choose our products.
No mass production, but genuine craftsmanship with character. Every pot has its own story — and that is what makes it so special.

We personally choose the most beautiful, highest quality pots!
You may have come across the beautiful pots and troughs from brands like Olive Ateliers or Trouvaille Imports in California, and wondered where you could find something like that in the Netherlands. Shipping them over from America simply is not affordable, and even in Europe we could not find this quality anywhere. So we, Frank and Daley, decided to source them ourselves: straight from the source, in the interior of Java.

Authenticity and craftsmanship
It is extremely important to us to offer a truly unique, one-of-a-kind product.
Every pot in our collection is personally selected. They come from various regions in Indonesia, where local craftsmen have been making these pots by hand for generations.
Many of these pots have a story: they were once used to store food, hold water, or for traditional fermentation.
Our pots have history — something you simply cannot replicate in a factory.

Sustainable and fair trade
Integrity is at the heart of what we do. We only work with suppliers with whom we can build a sustainable and genuine relationship.
We deliberately choose partners who treat not only us but also their local employees and trade partners with respect. This is one of the reasons our products are not mass-produced. We sell our beautiful pots at a price that reflects these values.
A plant pot in your home looks even better when you know it was purchased with fair pay and fair treatment — not just the lowest price.

Unique shapes, colours and sizes
Each of our pots is one of a kind. Choose a round pot, or oval, square or rectangular. Heights and stone thicknesses vary too. Colours range from white, sand and beige to grey, brown and other earthy tones. Every pot has a different colour.
The appearance of the pots is shaped by time, the place they stood, and the craftsmanship with which they were made.
When you buy a Montung pot, you're not buying mass production — you're buying authenticity, pure craftsmanship and a piece of history for your interior or garden.

Veelgestelde vragen
We have no connection to Olive Ateliers, but it is true that our pots have a similar look and are most likely made from the same material. Whether we share the same supplier, we honestly do not know. And as long as we have not seen and felt such a pot ourselves, we will not make claims about it. What we can say with certainty: our pots are genuine, solid natural stone, handmade and weathered outdoors for years. If you are after that same look, you are in the right place here in the Netherlands. Read more about why Montung is the European alternative to Olive Ateliers.
