Our trip to Java: sourcing pots at the origin

Every pot in our range has a story. And that story begins on the other side of the world, in the interior of Java, where natural stone pots have been made and kept by hand for generations.

The journey

We travel during the dry season, when the roads into the interior are passable. The route takes us past local markets, small workshops and family businesses far beyond the cities. Every year we meet new makers, but also trusted contacts we have known for years.

The selection process takes days. We check every pot for cracks, stone quality and authenticity. A pot with a slight chip or an uneven rim is not necessarily a problem. It can actually be proof of age and craftsmanship. But a pot that is structurally weakened does not come with us.

Fair sourcing

We work exclusively with makers who offer their pots fairly. We pay a fair price, even when buying larger quantities. That is not just a principle. It is also practical: good relationships lead to the finest pieces.

The result ends up here with us in Zuidoostbeemster: each piece unique, with an origin you will not find anywhere else in the Netherlands.
